Welcome to Bulwell URC, a place where families come together to nurture their faith and build lasting connections. At Bulwell URC, our goal is to empower families and individuals to deepen their spirituality in a way that is both meaningful and accessible. We invite you to explore our family-friendly resources designed to enrich your faith journey.
Our church is like a big, welcoming family where everyone is embraced with open arms. Whether you’re young or young at heart, we offer a friendly and inclusive environment where you can grow in your faith surrounded by caring, supportive people. Our community is a diverse mix of families, and we celebrate the beauty of our differences. Finally, we love to be able to serve the area that sounds us.

Family Church
The United Reformed Church believes in the ministry of the whole people of God — women and men, young and old, ordained and lay.
While we recognise and support specific roles, we also celebrate the many ways people serve — both within the church and in the wider community. Ministry is something we all share, whether that’s through preaching, caring, teaching, volunteering, or simply living out our faith in everyday life.
You’ll find more about our work with younger members on our Children & Youth pages, including information, resources, and opportunities to get involved.
Community Based Church
Our local community isn’t always straightforward — but it is stable, vibrant, and full of people and possibilities shaped by God.
We believe the church has a responsibility to be present in the heart of its community. That’s why we work to bring a sense of the ‘otherness of God’ into everyday life, making our church building a space where local people can feel welcome, supported, and connected.
We offer our facilities for community events and activities, both through private bookings, and children’s or neighbourhood parties and through our own church-led programmes, including:
- Friendship 2000 (for seniors)
- Little Stars Toddler Group
- Wacky Wednesdays
- Friday Youth
- Activity & Play
- Wednesday Fellowship
- Messy Church
- Children & Youth Church
By meeting people’s practical and social needs, we build relationships and raise awareness of the church’s presence and purpose — creating opportunities to meet spiritual needs too.
Our fully refurbished building is well-situated, accessible, and offers a variety of flexible spaces available for use by the community.
Witnessing Church Aware of its Mission
At Bulwell United Reformed Church, mission is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that being church means more than meeting on Sundays — it means being present, active, and responsive to the real needs of our local community every day of the week.
We’ve shaped our church life around this calling. From running groups for children, youth, and families to providing space for seniors, supporting wellbeing, and creating opportunities for connection and belonging — we are here to serve. Our building is not just a place of worship, but a hub of welcome, warmth, and witness.
We see mission as a two-way journey: meeting people where they are, and gently helping them discover God’s love along the way. Whether through Messy Church, Wacky Wednesdays, Little Stars, our Activity & Play Session, or weekly worship and prayer, every part of our ministry is rooted in love, service, and hope.
We don’t want to stand still. We continue to ask ourselves important questions: Who is missing? How can we reach further? What needs are still unmet? These questions drive our planning, shape our programmes, and challenge us to grow — in number, in spirit, and in faithfulness.
We are a church committed to being Christ’s hands and feet in Bulwell — and we’re excited about what God will do next.
Worshipping Church
At Bulwell United Reformed Church, we believe worship is at the heart of who we are. It draws us closer to God, deepens our faith, and fuels our calling to love and serve our community.
Our Sunday morning worship is where we gather to pray, reflect, learn, and grow together. We strive to make this time welcoming, accessible, and meaningful for all ages by:
Having designated welcomers to ensure everyone — especially newcomers — feels comfortable and valued.
Using technology such as recorded music and visual projection to support and enhance worship.
Including creative elements, such as drama and dance, when appropriate, to bring the message to life.
Actively involving children and young people in services and leadership, especially during our All Together Worship — a lively, inclusive service that takes place at least once a month and is a real strength of our church.
Continuing our commitment to weekly Communion, while remaining flexible about when and how it takes place — whether in the morning, evening, or special formats like breakfast church.
Surrounding our worship in prayer and regularly reviewing what we do to remain open to God’s leading.
Our evening worship, called Encounter, takes place on the first Sunday of each month. It’s a more modern, creative, and reflective style of worship — designed to help us connect with God in a deeper and more informal way. While smaller in number, it’s deeply valued.
Worship at Bulwell happens throughout the week, in different ways, through prayer, fellowship, and service. Wherever people gather in faith — worship is alive.
Caring Church ~ Personally
One of the real strengths of Bulwell United Reformed Church is the genuine friendliness and care shown to everyone who walks through our doors.
Whether it’s a warm welcome on a Sunday morning over coffee, a thoughtful chat during the week, or a pastoral visit from our Minister or dedicated lay pastoral team, we are committed to supporting one another in life and faith.
Care at Bulwell isn’t just a programme — it’s part of our culture. We believe that everyone matters and no one should feel forgotten.
A Caring Church ~ Globally
At Bulwell United Reformed Church, we believe that God’s love calls us to care not just for our neighbours close by, but for people across the world. Our faith compels us to act with compassion, justice, and generosity — both locally and globally.
We are proud to support a range of international causes, including the Joshua Project in Malawi, the Bible Society, and the Teams4U Shoebox Appeal, which brings gifts and joy to children and families in need across Eastern Europe.
We are actively involved in Christian Aid efforts in our area, and we are a recognised Fairtrade Church, committed to ethical buying and raising awareness of global inequality. We’re also not afraid to engage with political issues where justice and human dignity are at stake.
Locally, we stand alongside organisations that serve those in crisis — especially the homeless — through our long-standing support of Framework and other local charities.
For us, caring is more than charity — it’s about partnership, solidarity, and hope, rooted in the Gospel and lived out through real action.
